6/28/2009—The U16 LDC team began their run for the 09
State Cup in the National Championship series with a closely
fought match against PA Rush Nike, the game finally ending in
overtime with a 3-2 win to LDC. The quarter finals were played
away against Lehigh Valley United, a game dominated by LDC and
ending 4-0.
The semi-finals found LDC playing FC Bucks Rage who had beaten
West Chester United, one of the previous years finalists, to reach
this stage of the Cups. The game began with offensive play from
both teams but eventually LDC proved too strong for the Bucks
county team and after three goals for LDC in the second half the
game ended 3-0 ensuring a spot in the finals for LDC.
In the final game of Cups, LDC played the 08 champions, Spirit
United. The game began with the Downingtown team applying early
pressure to LDC's defence which was soon countered by LDC's own
offensive play. The first half ended scoreless with both teams
starting the second half with the same intensity as the first.
Spirit finally broke through LDC's defense to score the first goal
of the game and followed up with a second shortly after. LDC's
response was to increase its pressure on Spirits goal and were
rewarded when a blistering shot ended in the back of the Spirit
net. Despite continued efforts by LDC, the game ended 1-2 to
Spirit United.
